Darlington Arts Center—History and Mission
Darlington Arts Center, a nonprofit organization, strives to serve the cultural needs of a diverse community by providing a school and outreach programs for the visual and performing arts. The Center promotes the enjoyment and understanding of the arts through outreach programs, private instruction, classes, performances, and special events for all ages.
The Center encourages the community's appreciation and participation in all its arts activities. Darlington's annual regular programming includes a Faculty Concert Series, Coffee House Series, monthly art exhibitions, master classes and a variety of arts-related workshops.
The Center is inclusive in its offerings. By embracing the visual and performing arts, Darlington makes it possible to enroll more than one family member at the same time and place for classes or lessons in music, art, dance, or drama. All Darlington's instructors are of the highest quality professionals in their specialty. Currently, programs include:
- A pre-school and kindergarten arts program
- Elementary Arts After School Club
- Summer Arts Camp incorporating all 4 disciplines as we explore different cultures
- Daytime music, visual, and performing arts classes for homeschooled children and seniors
- Suzuki piano, cello and violin
- Early childhood music beginning at birth to 5 years old
- Private instruction for voice and all instruments
- Music theory, jazz improvisation, chamber music
- Art at all levels in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, sewing, mixed media and computer art
- Ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, modern, creative dance, yoga, pilates, health & fitness, ballroom and karate classes
- Drama, children's theater workshop, audition preparation and faculty children's theatre company
- Community Service Saturdays
- Full day activities for children when schools have inservice days
