Fairy Tale Theatre

Relive the magic of your favorite fairy tales! Our budding actors don't need to read in order to create and perform scenes from their favorite magical tales. Throughout the semester students will perform their short plays for parents.

Foundations of Drawing and Painting
Ages 6 – 9

Incorporate drawing and painting techniques to form an artistic foundation for young artists. Light, shadow, perspective, form and color theory will be covered.

Midas and the Golden Touch

Midas is given a special gift: everything he touches turns to gold. But things don't work out exactly as planned. See what happens when his food, possessions and even his little daughter are in danger of being changed to precious metal! Performance the last day of class.

Heighten your child's imagination through the use of clay and paint. This class will combine the fundamentals of both art forms for our young artists.

Creativity takes flight in this clay class! Children will learn to punch, roll, and squeeze clay, shaping it into some of their favorite and imaginative animals.

Creating with Clay

Use a variety of different clays to explore the many possibilities of handbuilding. We will create sculptures of animals, plaques for your walls, and containers for your many treasures. New projects are introduced every session. Open to both returning and new students.

An affiliate of the Traditional Okinawa Karate Institute
Darlington 's Karate Club is based on Isshinryu karate, an Okinawan karate style. Students will learn Isshinryu upper and lower body techniques thrown from a natural, upright stance; Isshinryu Kata (forms); self-defense skills; and some Japanese, which is used frequently in the classroom. Isshinryu karate develops balance, coordination, mental focus, discipline and listening skills. It also develops an awareness of the world around you, and respect for yourself and others.
Students will need to purchase a training uniform, or Gi, for $35 from the instructor. At appropriate times, students will be tested for a higher belt level. There is a testing fee of $35. Testing will be done by TOKI Black belts.

The Suzuki Method:
Realizing the implications of native language learning, Shinichi Suzuki developed the rote method of musical learning. The Suzuki method emphasizes the importance of starting early, listening, repetition, parental involvement and encouragement, and learning with other children. Darlington offers Suzuki instruction in violin and piano.

Suzuki Violin Program:
Pre-Twinkle Violin Classes
Beginners, Ages 4 - 6
For the younger student Darlington offers the Pre-Twinkle Violin Class. Students may take from 16-32 weeks of pre-twinkle before graduating to the traditional Suzuki program.

The Traditional Suzuki Program:
Ages 6 & up
The traditional Suzuki program is offered to older beginners and graduates of pre-twinkle. It consists of two key and necessary components: weekly private lessons and bi-weekly group lessons. Music theory classes are offered at no extra cost.

Private lessons are available for piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, trumpet, saxophone, oboe, guitar (rock, folk, jazz, classical), banjo, flute, clarinet, French horn, trombone, tuba, and drums/percussion.
Theory classes are included in the price of private instrumental lessons.

Instrumental Group Lessons/Ensembles
2 players: $18 per student per 30 minutes
3 players: $16 per student per 30 minutes
4 players: $14 per student per 30 minutes
5 players: $12 per student per 30 minutes
Our instrumental ensemble groups are chosen for personal and musical compatibility as well as proficiency and age. Open to all instruments.

Classes for Elementary Instrumental Students
Instrumental Ensemble Rates
An economical way to introduce beginning students to applied music lessons. Small or semi-private lessons for clarinet, saxophone, flute, recorder, trumpet, violin, cello, guitar and percussion. A great introduction to an instrument!

Individual Dramatic Coaching
$45 per hour

This intense private instruction includes individual analysis and critique using primarily monologue and improvisation.

Private Dance Instruction
$45 per hour

This intense private instruction is available for ballet, tap, modern, jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop.

Music Therapy
Teacher - Houpt
An individualized approach to music designed to address special needs and abilities. Participants will be engaged actively and experientially through music. The goal of the program is to increase appreciation and enjoyment of music while providing for the advancement of psycho/social development and increased functioning at the highest physical and cognitive levels. Day, time, price, and length of this class will be determined on an individual basis.
