Music Appreciation for Adults: The Composer's Voice

Most people have heard of Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart, but how many others can you name? What is a Sonata, Suite, or Symphony? Learn how to distinguish between different periods in music, major composers of those periods, and listen to each composer's "voice.”

Building on the musical concepts learned in the earlier theory classes, Advanced Theory will cover sight-reading, musical notation, keys, chords, and musical analysis.

Classical Hatha Yoga

Working from a live model students will start with short poses, breaking down the figure and finish with one or two longer poses allowing students to focus more on the construction, values and more details. Students will begin in a black and white medium, then move on to color.

Explore the “book” as a structure for creative expression and as a venue for drawings, journal entries and photographs. Students will develop basic bookmaking skills by designing and producing one-of-a-kind books and a small edition/collaborative project.

An affiliate of the Traditional Okinawa Karate Institute
Darlington 's Karate Club is based on Isshinryu karate, an Okinawan karate style. Students will learn Isshinryu upper and lower body techniques thrown from a natural, upright stance; Isshinryu Kata (forms); self-defense skills; and some Japanese, which is used frequently in the classroom. Isshinryu karate develops balance, coordination, mental focus, discipline and listening skills. It also develops an awareness of the world around you, and respect for yourself and others.
Students will need to purchase a training uniform, or Gi, for $35 from the instructor. At appropriate times, students will be tested for a higher belt level. There is a testing fee of $35. Testing will be done by TOKI Black belts.

Intro to Opera Scenes and Ensembles

Students will learn and perform short opera duets, trios, or scenes appropriate to their level of singing. Learn about operatic repertoire, opera plots, characters and musical styes. Translate texts, perform in the original language, and work dramatically on the scenes.
For advanced voice students with approval of their vocal instructor.

Clay Relief Sculpture

Using clay, build form on a flat surface to create depth and space. Through the use of images, beginners will learn the techniques of working with clay in order to build three-dimensional forms; while more experienced students will focus on composition.

ACMP Scholarship Chamber Music Program for Adult Amateurs

A friendly, unintimidating environment in which to learn new repertoire, and an opportunity for personal enrichment and enjoyment. For the intermediate or advanced wind, string, brass or keyboard player.

Private Music Instruction
Per 30-minute lesson: $27
Per 45-minute lesson: $40.50
Per 60-minute lesson: $54
Teachers available through arrangement with music registrar. Private lessons are available for piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, celtic harp, trumpet, saxophone, oboe, guitar (rock, folk, jazz, classical), banjo, flute, recorder, clarinet, French horn, trombone, tuba, and drums/percussion. Theory classes included in the price of private instrumental lessons.

Individual Dramatic Coaching
$45 per hour

This intense private instruction includes individual analysis and critique using primarily monologue and improvisation.

Private Dance Instruction

This program was initiated through a generous grant from the Amateur Chamber Music Players Foundation with additional funding from the Presser Foundation. Compatible groups will be formed by audition for winds, brass, strings and keyboard.
