Individual attention allows students to develop a selected type of work – still-life, landscape, portraiture – in the medium of choice – oils, acrylics, watercolors or pencil. Class size limited to six students.

Learn the basics of drawing the human head while working in a black and white medium of your choice. Please bring a free-standing counter-top mirror and an 18”x24” newsprint pad as well as your choice of charcoal or graphite pencil to class.

Play Into Art

Playing with color, we will work in watercolor, colored paper, pastel, crayon, etc, while learning about space, line, shape, texture and color.

Foundations of Drawing and Painting

Incorporate drawing and painting techniques to form an artistic foundation for young artists. Light, shadow, perspective, form and color theory will be covered.

Artistic Exploration through Time

Investigate art techniques through the ages in this flexibly formatted course. Students may register for one up to all four sessions depending on their interest in the topic and their availability. Registration is due two weeks prior to the beginning of each four week session.

Teen Handbuilding and Throwing

Explore the processes of clay assembly: pinch, slab, coil and throwing. Beginning and advanced techniques will be introduced as well as glazing and slip decorating.

Study the Figure

Working from a live model students will start with short poses, breaking down the figure and finish with one or two longer poses allowing students to focus more on the construction, values and more details. Students will begin in a black and white medium, then move on to color.

Drawing and Learning to See

Learn basic drawing applications such as relating proportions, the awareness of negative and positive space and the action, proportion and construction of objects. Bring an 18”x24” newsprint pad and a medium of your choice.

Paint and Clay Works

Heighten your child's imagination through the use of clay and paint. This class will combine the fundamentals of both art forms for our young artists.

Clay Critters

Creativity takes flight in this clay class! Children will learn to punch, roll, and squeeze clay, shaping it into some of their favorite and imaginative animals.

Working with Plaster

Learn the basics of working with plaster. Cast and carve into clay, plaster and other materials and finish with paint. Great for beginners and experienced artists.

Intro to Bookmaking

Explore the “book” as a structure for creative expression and as a venue for drawings, journal entries and photographs. Students will develop basic bookmaking skills by designing and producing one-of-a-kind books and a small edition/collaborative project.

Intro to Pottery

Learn the fundamental skills necessary in creating wheel-thrown pottery. Basic techniques and projects will be covered: throwing, glazing and surface decoration using cylinders, bowls, and altered forms.

Clay Relief Sculpture

Using clay, build form on a flat surface to create depth and space. Through the use of images, beginners will learn the techniques of working with clay in order to build three-dimensional forms; while more experienced students will focus on composition.
