Intro to Shakespeare

Yoga and Relaxation

Behind the Camera:
For Just This Moment

In conjunction with her exhibit, Deborah will be offering a special workshop discussing the photographs from her exhibit and the natural light, color, feeling, and composition in the art of fine photography. Learn exactly what thoughts, feelings and special moments created each photograph. Following the talk, there will be an optional photo critique. Participants are welcome to bring in 1 to 5 prints of their photography to share with the group. Deborah will discuss and give constructive comments on each participant's photographs in a relaxed atmosphere of learning and shared appreciation.
Deborah Cascarino has photographed many of our national parks and natural areas. Inspired by the inherent beauty in nature and love of natural light, her photographs capture the spontaneous blending of light, atmosphere, and nature that create those magical moments which are her inspiration. “I strive to create a visual haiku… capturing one fleeting moment of nature and light… simple yet powerful.”

American Girl Tea Party and Fashion Show

In celebration of our hardworking and talented American Girl sewing students, Darlington will hold its first end-of-year American Girl Tea Party and Fashion Show. This fashionable event will feature an exhibition of student creations, two short demonstrations and the runway fashion show followed by tea and sweets.

Partner Yoga

Partner yoga is a beautiful way to explore alignment, balance, sensitivity and awareness. It is the ultimate in cooperating with your partner and in doing so, paradoxically focuses awareness on yourself.

Figure Drawing Worksop

Working from a live model students will start with short poses, breaking down the figure and finish with longer poses allowing students to focus more on anatomy, values and detail. Students will work in charcoal and pencil.

T-Shirt Design

Use your fashion savvy to create and print a design on a t-shirt of your choosing. You may create your own logo design your own pattern or draw your favorite subject matter. Bring 2 white or light colored t-shirts, pre-washed and dried without fabric softener.

Clay Beads Workshop

Design a beaded necklace or bracelet. Creativity is key as we explore shape, texture, & color in our jewelry finding inspiration in designs from various cultures.

Sculptural Paper Casting for Teens
June 16 - 20: 1 week, Monday - Friday, 9:30 - 11:00am

This class will allow students to realize the possibilities in translating their sculptural designs into another medium. Students will use clay and assemblage methods to create an original sculptural design which we will cast in plaster. From this mold we will make several paper castings. Each student will finish with a unique series of paper sculptures that explores a variety of surface treatments.

Sculptural Paper Casting
June 16 - 20: 1 week, Monday - Friday, 6:00 - 7:00pm

Self-Portrait in Clay

By using your own facial features as a reference, learn how to sculpt anatomically correct portraits. This class will cover the basics of sculpting in clay, as well as composition and patina surface treatments. In July, students will paint & stain their work.

The Magic of Mozart

Learn about the Wunderkind Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who began writing music at age six and composed his first opera by age eight! Students will listen to excerpts of several symphonies, but focus on his famous opera, The Magic Flute.

Intensive Beginners Theory

This course is designed for students who have no prior theory experience, but some practical instrumental or vocal training. Topics include major scales, intervals, sight-singing, and dictation at a beginner's level.

Living with Beethoven

Travel back in time to discover the life and music of Ludwig Van Beethoven! With the help of a boy named Christoph, we will learn about the life of a great artist who continued to create musical masterpiece despite becoming deaf. Intensive Intermediate Theory

Designed for students with some prior theory knowledge, this is a natural extension of the Intensive Beginner's Theory Workshop. Topics include major and minor scales, intervals, chords and chord construction.

Drawing with Color

Scene and Screen Drama Camp

Darlington Arts Center has been working closely with scout troops in the area to create specialized workshops. Call to arrange a date, time and workshop theme for your troop. Any of our classes or workshops can be modified into a custom workshop. Max of 12 students per class.
