To my Darlington Arts Center friends:
It is with pride and respect for the Darlington Arts Center that I share with you the highlights of a successful year in a challenging time. For 33 years the Center has adapted, changed and grown to nurture and meet the creative and artistic needs of students, artists, and community members.
Today we serve as a hub in our community for arts, culture and social activities. We are very grateful to all those who continue to aid in Darlington’s health and achievements. The year 2009-2010 was a stimulating mix of continuity and change, as Angela Scully finished her first year in the role of Executive Director, thus completing the transition from Founder and Executive Director, Diana Hemmenway. We also underwent a Board of Directors retreat process and experienced transition on the Board with the addition of four new Board members and the departure of longtime Directors, Susan Paikin and Robert Sulek. We are very grateful for Susan’s and Rob’s service and stewardship over many years. Susan, in particular, has been involved with Darlington since its founding in 1978.
Darlington’s enrollment continued to grow, with over 2,885 students taking lessons and classes. In addition, Darlington’s Coffee House Concerts, monthly recitals, master classes and art exhibits brought many individuals and families from our community to the Arts Center.
In a very challenging economic climate, Darlington took some difficult steps that included cost cutting and conservative budgeting. We are happy to report that these efforts resulted in a balanced budget for the year ending July 30, 2010. Darlington’s annual audit process is now underway.
Without the hard work of our dedicated staff and the support of friends and donors, none of our accomplishments would be possible. Please know that we appreciate your support in its many varieties and look forward to wonderful things ahead for the Darlington Arts Center.
Regards,

Bob Cochran
President, Board of Directors
