In honor of former director Athena Sophocles, this scholarship is awarded for private music lessons at Darlington and is granted solely on the basis of ability and talent to Middle and High School students. Auditions are held in the spring of each year.
These scholarships were initiated and have been funded since 1995 by ACMP - The Chamber Music Network and the Clinton B. Ford Fund of its ACMP Foundation to enhance and perpetuate the study and performance of chamber music. Auditions, which are scheduled at the beginning of each semester, are open to intermediate and advanced students of all ages in strings, winds, brass, and keyboard in the tri-county area.
Through the generosity of our friend and late benefactor Sally Paxson Davis, Darlington will provide a vocal scholarship to a deserving young singer. Sally Davis, imbued with a love of vocal music from her mother and grandmother, had led the board of the Academy of Vocal Arts, a tuition-free opera training school in Philadelphia, since 2001.
For every registration fee that Darlington collects, $1.00 is applied to the Scholarship Fund, which was established in 1995 to ensure the availability of financial aid to students in the future.
Initiated in June 2003 through the generosity of the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Memorial Foundation, this fund provides need-based scholarship assistance to students in Delaware County.
A special fund initiated in 2005 by members of the Darlington faculty to provide additional scholarship assistance for outstanding students who require financial assistance.
