Teens will explore the vast artistic potential of clay, including pottery, sculpture and casting. Students will learn about using equipment such as the potter's wheel and slab roller, as well as how to load and fire an electric kiln. Weather permitting, students will also take part in a primitive pit-firing outdoors.

Set marbles and tiles into cement to create a beautiful garden plaque.

With the use of a live model, aspiring designers learn how to draw the figure by following an instructional breakdown of the human form and practicing gesture sketches. The model will start in black tights and body suit to allow a clear understanding of the structure of the figure, adding skirts and scarves to practice drawing fabric draping and the flow of a garment.

The Chinese Spring Festival (also known as the Chinese New Year) is the most important festival and holiday in China. Campers will join the celebration by learning traditional songs about luck and prosperity, designing beautiful props to use in the famous dragon and lion dances, exploring nuo drama, and more! Campers will end their week with a beautiful Lantern Festival.

The arts are used in community celebrations in every culture around the world. Tap into the festive spirits of these artistic events at Darlington Arts Center’s 2012 Cultural Summer Arts Camp - World Celebrations: Arts Festivals Around the Globe. Each day campers will explore music, visual art, dance and drama from different cultures, as presented in arts festivals world-wide. Students will gain the benefit of learning about diverse cultures and art forms while staying close to home under the direction of professional teaching artists.

The Summer 2012 Adult Drawing & Painting class will be Tusdays 7-9pm from June 26-Aug 14.  The class will emphasize solid technical skill development and an understanding of drawing and painting. Students will learn to be more decisive in their use of color, line, form and composition through discussion and critique of artists from throughout art history. Unleash your creativity during a weeklong exploration of the Visual Arts! Try different styles and media such as paint, graphite, clay, pastels and mixed media, while learning about artists and art movements. Students will discover their own strengths and develop technique while creating one-of-a-kind works of art. Projects will differ from the June 18-22, July & August weeks allowing campers to attend one or all weeks of Visual Art Intensive Camp.
