All Private Lessons at Darlington
All lessons are arranged with the Registrar, Dawn Stevens, by calling 610-358-3632 x103.
Private lessons can be arranged for any age, any subject, and any skill level. New students can start at any point of the year with prorated tuition. Registration is required for all private lessons. By registering at Darlington, you are agreeing to our policies and giving us permission to use any photos or video of you or your children for publicity.
All Teacher Absences and Center Closures will be either: made up by adding the missed lesson(s) to the end of the scheduled lessons, credited or refunded (depending upon the discipline). Lessons may be suspended for extended absences of 3 or more weeks due to illness, injury or other emergency. These medical leave absences must have prior approval by the office with a doctor’s note so that the student will not be charged for the lessons.
A Registration Fee of $65 must be paid in order to reserve a specific day and time with an instructor. This fee covers all registrations for the entire family from September 1, 2012 – August 31, 2013 and is NON-REFUNDABLE. ($1 of the Registration Fee is applied to Darlington’s Endowment Fund, which allows available scholarships to worthy students.)
Darlington accepts payments made by check, Visa, MasterCard or Discover. For all checks that are returned, there will be a $30 Returned Check Fee. Payments received more than 5 days past the due date will be charged a $15 Late Fee. Darlington reserves the right to suspend instruction for students whose tuition payment is egregiously late.
Private Dance Lessons
Private dance lessons are arranged for times that fit the teacher’s schedules, and when there is studio availability.
For the Academic Year (September – early June) students have two options upon registration:
1 – Students sign up for a regular weekly day and time, and commit to lessons for the full year (up to the recital; tuition will be prorated for mid-year enrollment). This provides the student the option of participating as a solo in Darlington’s annual recital (if lessons begin before the January cut-off date). Students receive 2 excused absences over the course of the year (advanced notice to the office required). There is the option of quarterly payments for tuition (due dates: Sept 1, Nov 15, Jan 15 & Mar 15). There is the ability to withdraw at any point in the year with a two-week written notice (day of notice is not included) and any pre-paid tuition will be credited or refunded. Associated feeds are non-refundable.
2 – Students sign up for as many or as few lessons as they would like, based on the teacher’s availability. Students choose exactly which weeks they will attend lessons upon registration. Lessons do not have to be in consecutive weeks, however, it is recommended for the student’s benefit. The dates chosen are subject to teacher approval and availability. There are no excused absences or make-ups since the student sets their own schedule. Full tuition is due upon registration. The student is NOT eligible for participation in Darlington’s annual recital. Once the scheduled lessons end, students have the option to sign up for more lessons, provided there is availability with the teacher and studio. At any point, students can switch to the yearly commitment (option 1) provided there is availability. If the switch is made before the recital cut-off date, students do become eligible for participation in Darlington’s annual recital.
For the summer (late June – August) only the above private dance lesson option 2 is available.
Private Art, Drama and Fitness Lessons
Private lessons are offered during times that a regular weekly class is not scheduled or during a timeslot when a regular weekly class does not run. For a lesson occurring during a scheduled class time, Darlington cannot confirm the time and day of the lesson until after the week the schedule class is planned to start.
For the Academic Year (September – early June) students have two options upon registration:
1 – Students sign up for a regular weekly day and time, and commit to lessons for the remainder of the current session (generally sessions are 8-9 weeks for art and fitness; 16-18 weeks for drama). Tuition will be prorated for mid-session enrollment. If the student registers for 6 or more weeks, they receive 1 excused absence over the course of the session (advanced notice to the office required). If the student registers for 5 weeks or less, there are no excused absences and option 2 (below) is recommended. Full tuition is due upon registration (if the student registers for 10 or more lessons, half payments may be made with the due date of Nov 15/Mar 15).
Once the scheduled lessons end, students have the option to sign up for more lessons, provided there is availability with the teacher and studio.
For the Summer (late June – August) only the above option 2 is available.
Private Music Lessons
Early registration is strongly recommended as schedules do fill up.
For the Academic Year (September – early June): All music students, once registered, must commit to the 34-week Academic Year. These 34 weeks run roughly from September through May, although the Academic Year may be extended into June due to teacher absences, school closures and/or excused student absences.
Tuition for all private music lessons is due prior to the first lesson. Payment may be made in full (34 weeks with a 2% discount) or divided into four equal payments. All private music lessons scheduled on a Saturday or Sunday will receive a 2% reduction in tuition. Payment due dates are Sept 1, Nov 15, Jan 15 & Mar 15. Darlington does not send out tuition invoices. Every effort will be made to send out e-mail reminders and post reminders throughout the school. To have the Center make Automatic Credit Card Charges on each due date, you must submit a Credit Card Authorization Form to the Office.
There is the ability to discontinue music lessons at any point in the Academic Year with a two-week written notice (day of notice is not included) and any pre-paid tuition will be credited or refunded. Associated fees are non-refundable.
All music students are entitled to 2 excused absences during the Academic Year. All excused absences will be made up either by scheduling them on established make-up days throughout the year or by adding them to the end of the Academic Year. A lesson will be considered excused only if the office is notified prior to the lesson time. Absences will not be made up and will be considered unexcused if: 1) the office is not notified prior to the lesson, or 2) the student has exceeded the allotted two excused absences.
For the Summer (late June – August): Students sign up for as many lessons as they would like (minimum of 4) based on the teacher’s availability. Students choose exactly which weeks they will attend lessons upon registration. Lessons do not have to be in consecutive weeks, however, it is recommended for the student’s benefit. There are no excused absences or make-ups since the student sets their own schedule. Full tuition is due upon registration. Once the scheduled lessons end, students have the option to sign up for more lessons, provided there is availability with the teacher.
