Drama Classes

Let your creativity take center stage! At Darlington, Drama students explore their imagination, gain skills and have fun. Our experienced, supportive teaching artists will help you or your child discover the actor within you and gain confidence. Classes focus on the process of acting or musical theatre, and performances are presented at the end of each semester for family and friends.

A Play in a Day workshops are offered throughout the year. Students will create an original play or musical, create sets and costumes, and perform in front of their family and friends all in one day!


Winter/Spring 2020 Classes

 

Kids & Teens
Script to Stage
Ages: 7-13, Mondays, 4:00-5:15 p.m.
Whether you are continuing your dramatic journey or you are brand new to the stage, this class is for you! Receive the tools and training of professional actors. You will build confidence and presence while you stage scenes from professional playwrights and use them as inspiration for theatrical exploration.  Show off with a performance for your family and friends on the final date!

Performing Arts Playground
Ages: 5-10, Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Build confidence and social skills while expanding and expressing your creativity! Participate in a variety of theater games while learning the skills of a theater artisan! Create characters, scenes and stories with friends! An exhibition of work will be presented on the last class of each session. Combine this Tuesday class with our 5:00pm art class Language Through the Arts: Spanish!

Improv, Sketch, & Standup
Ages: 7-12, Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Learn to think on your feet and develop your comedic skills for the stage! Participate in fun theater games that will build your wit and hone your comedic timing. Combine this class with our 4pm Wednesday art class Weird and Wild and students may be bused directly from schools using Garnet Valley School District transportation for this class as part of our After-School Arts Club.

Language Through the Arts: Spanish
Ages: 5-10, Tuesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Students will immerse themselves in other cultures by exploring the Spanish language in fun and creative ways.  In a partnership with Language University, this multi-disciplinary class will help your child learn the basics of Spanish through exciting projects in music, art, dance, and drama! Combine this class with our 4pm drama class Performing Arts Playground and students who take Garnet Valley School District transportation can ride the bus to Darlington!

Improv and Acting Through Storytelling
Ages: 55+, Wednesdays, 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Learn to think on your feet and develop your acting skills for the stage! Participate in a social theater class with other members of the community in this Creative Aging program! Build your wit and hone your comedic timing while also developing your dramatic skills.
