Visual Art Classes - Summer 2026
Discover your inner artist at Darlington
We offer classes and workshops in drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, mixed media & more. Learn the skills of an artist and create beautiful pieces to take home! Our small class sizes allow for our friendly, experienced teaching artists to devote individual attention to each student. Classes and workshops are designed for children and adults of all ages and skill levels - beginners welcome! Interested in a class that has already started? Because we are a member-supported center for the arts, a non-refundable Family Membership of $75, valid from September 1 through August 31, is required to enroll in all activities (exceptions are noted and include all workshops) and will be pro-rated to $40 for activities beginning after March 1. The Family Membership may be tax-deductible and allows Darlington to maintain facilities, provide excellent administration, care for our instruments and studios, and fulfill our mission to provide Every Art for Everyone.
Kids
Paint and Clay Works
Ages: 7-12, Monday, 4:00pm-5:00pm
Heighten your imagination through the use of clay and paint! This class will teach the fundamentals of painting in acrylic and watercolor as well as three-dimensional ceramic art including the construction of fun sculptures in addition to functional pottery like mugs and bowls!

Sewing for Kids
Ages: 7-12, Tuesday, 3:30PM-4:30PM
Learn the basics of sewing in this introductory class. Our teaching artist will guide the students through a series of projects to illustrate the various skills. No experience necessary – just a willing spirit and an eagerness to learn.

Sewing for Teens
Ages: 11-17, Tuesdays, 4:40-5:40pm
Expand your sewing skills by delving deeper into creating works from scratch. This class will focus more on the sewing aspect of costume design. Students will take a basic dress pattern and learn how to adapt it to various styles and time periods

Teen Pottery
Ages: 11-17, Wednesdays, 4:30-6:00pm
Have you enjoyed taking Play With Clay or Paint and Clay Works? Have you always wanted to learn how to work the wheel? If your answer was YES, then this class is for you. Learn the basics of wheel throwing and continue creating amazing clay creations by hand.

In a structured class setting, individual attention and guidance allows you to develop works in many different mediums. Whether you are an experienced artist or a beginner, this class will build your technical skills through the basic elements of art and principles of composition. You will create works of art while using traditional materials such as acrylic, watercolor, and more.

Sewing for Adults
Ages: 18+, Tuesday, 5:30-7:30pm
Learn to create your own stylish, custom-fit clothing in this hands-on sewing class! Students will master essential skills like taking measurements, reading patterns, cutting fabric, and constructing garments using a sewing machine. Each session focuses on a different project—such as skirts, tops, or simple dresses—allowing you to build confidence with each piece.

Pottery for Adults
Ages: 18+, Wednesday, 6:00pm-8:00pm
Explore the many techniques of making pottery: pinch, slab, coil and wheel-throwing. Work step-by-step through each technique and use these skills to create a variety of functional and decorative forms, such as bowls, mugs, plates and plaques. All experience levels are welcome! This small class allows for a great deal of one-on-one instruction. Personal project ideas are encouraged. NOTE WELL: Students must use clay provided by Darlington Arts Center. Students may either use previously purchased clay or purchase a 25lb. block of clay for $45 at the time of registration.
